Media Press Group and Webedia expand strategic partnership
Media Press Group, one of Europe’s leading providers of TV and streaming metadata, and its subsidiary for Spanish- Portuguese-speaking markets, MediaDataTV, have expanded their collaboration with Webedia. The aim is to support an ambitious international streaming metadata program across key markets including France, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Brazil, among other territories.
The partnership covers multiple markets and dozens of streaming services. Its purpose is to help Webedia strengthen the consistency, quality and interoperability of the entertainment data used by its main local brands and editorial platforms. These include some of the best-known entertainment and digital media brands in their respective markets, such as AlloCiné in France, FILMSTARTS and Moviepilot in Germany, SensaCine in Spain, SensaCine México in Mexico and AdoroCinema in Brazil.
At the heart of the collaboration is OpenID, the open, vendor-neutral identification system for entertainment metadata developed by Media Press Group. The idea is not to add yet another proprietary layer to an already fragmented market, but to connect and bring order to data across catalogs, countries, languages and platforms. This gives media companies, publishers and operators a stronger foundation for search, content discovery, editorial work, catalog management and future AI use cases.
The expanded partnership responds to a broader industry challenge: streaming catalogs, local editorial databases and platform data are increasingly fragmented across territories. The same title may exist in several language versions, with different local titles, editorial descriptions, availability conditions and classification criteria. By combining Media Press Group’s structured metadata infrastructure with Webedia’s local entertainment brands and market-specific editorial knowledge, the collaboration aims to build a more consistent and scalable data infrastructure without losing local relevance.
For Media Press Group, the project is also a reference case for its global strategy: developing metadata systems that work at international scale while remaining rooted in local editorial expertise. The company operates in 18 countries, has around 700 employees, and combines local editorial experience with modern technology infrastructure, AI-assisted data enrichment and data integration capabilities.
“Entertainment metadata is no longer just a back-office asset. It is becoming a strategic layer for content discovery, user experience, catalog governance and platform independence,” said Miłosz Cechnicki, COO of Media Press Group. “Our collaboration with Webedia shows that global standardization and local editorial excellence can go hand in hand. With OpenID, we are helping to build a more interoperable metadata ecosystem that serves publishers, platforms and operators without locking them into closed proprietary structures.”
“Working with Media Press Group allows us to combine strong local editorial expertise with a scalable, consistent data framework across markets,” said Julien Drouais, Managing Director Cinema Publishing at Webedia. “This is essential to continue improving the quality and consistency of our entertainment platforms.”
The partnership is particularly relevant at a time when major telecom operators and entertainment platforms are rethinking the role of metadata in their next-generation TV and streaming products. Large-scale EPG and VoD environments increasingly require consistent identifiers across markets, high-quality local-language data, flexible migration processes, rights-aware workflows and the ability to bring linear TV, on-demand content and streaming together into a seamless user experience.
Webedia is one of the world’s leading players in digital entertainment, operating major media brands and communities in film, gaming, food, technology, lifestyle and entertainment. Its local brands reach large digital audiences and play a key role in how users discover, understand and enjoy films, series, games and other content in their own language and cultural context.
The collaboration between Media Press Group and Webedia will also include joint communication activities and a future case study, positioning the project as a reference model for scalable, localized and interoperable entertainment metadata operations.
