Warner Bros International Television Production showcases an exciting mix of unscripted and scripted formats for MIPCOM 2026, highlighting fresh storytelling perspectives.

Overview of Warner Bros' New Formats for MIPCOM 2026

Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) recently presented its diverse slate for MIPCOM 2026, spotlighting a mix of compelling unscripted and scripted formats. The offerings come from WBITVP's extensive network of global production companies and partners, demonstrating the company’s commitment to innovative storytelling.

Unscripted Offerings

Leading the unscripted category is the engaging comedy game show Unacceptable. In this unique format, two teams of comedians are tasked with defending outrageous and controversial opinions before an audience, ranging from “attractive people shouldn’t pay tax” to “AI should rule the world.” The use of a live 'swing-o-meter' tracks audience persuasion, enhancing the competitive edge of the show, which is produced by Ranga Bee Productions for TLC in the UK.

Another standout is 100 Cooks from Lando Entertainment for Food Network in the United States. This competition ramps up the excitement by placing 100 amateur cooks in an unpredictable arena where fate plays a significant role. Here, the Challenge Mixer determines cooking tasks, while the Cook Mixer decides who faces which challenge—creating an atmosphere of suspense. As the competition escalates, contestants face a dilemma introduced by the Money Mixer: accept monetary rewards or risk it for a chance at a larger prize.

The Dark Side, produced by WBITVP Finland for Nelonen, takes a different tone by combining journalism and criminal investigation. The format pairs a journalist with a former detective to revisit intriguing crimes, where they dissect evidence and delve into varying theories. Enhancing the narrative are cinematic AI-generated reenactments that bring hidden moments to life, offering a fresh perspective on true crime stories.

Renovation and Franchise Elements

The slate also includes creative takes on renovation formats. One notable example is Home Town Takeover, produced by RTR Media for HGTV in the USA. This ambitious project involves transforming an entire small town through community collaboration, showcasing the power of collective effort in revitalizing local spaces and homes while preserving the town’s unique character.

Also featured is Bachelor Mansion Takeover, a fresh addition to the well-known Bachelor franchise from Warner Horizon for HGTV in the USA. This format flips the usual premise by inviting returning participants to tackle major renovations instead of romantic pursuits. The challenge lies not only in home design but also in navigating friendships and rivalries that arise during the transformation process.

Scripted Formats and Their Themes

Transitioning to scripted content, WBITVP introduces three new formats that delve into complex characters and narratives. One such offering is Crackhead from WBITVP New Zealand for Three and ThreeNow. This darkly comedic drama follows Frankie, who, after choosing rehab over incarceration, discovers a rundown facility filled with unpredictable characters. As she navigates her rehabilitation, the series offers a blend of humor and drama while exploring themes of addiction and personal growth.

Another significant scripted entry is Time:out, produced by WBITVP Belgium for VRT. This drama centers on Ellis and Brecht, a couple whose life together is disrupted when Brecht, having survived a life-threatening illness, seeks control over his life in an unconventional way that sends shockwaves through their inner circle. The storyline prompts introspection among the friends and family regarding their own choices and desires.

Lastly, United, crafted by Eyeworks for Ketnet, narrates the lives of a close group of teenage footballers grappling with ambitions and friendships, especially when one member, Hannes, faces the decision of joining a rival club. The show explores the delicate balance between personal dreams and team loyalty, showcasing the pressures faced by young athletes.

Perspectives from WBITVP’s Leadership

André Renaud, WBITVP’s GVP of Format and Finished Sales, shares insight on the newly unveiled slate: “This year’s MIPCOM formats bring strong ideas that instantly command attention. Unacceptable takes absurd opinions and turns them into a persuasive contest, while 100 Cooks marries grand scale with the anxiety of unpredictability. The Dark Side’s incorporation of generative AI adds a new layer to the true crime genre. Our scripted formats challenge characters at pivotal moments in their lives, whether confronting addiction, battling illness, or dealing with the intricacies of growing up.” This selection promises to ignite conversations at the MIPCOM event in Cannes.
